LAVA SIG Alert – April 2012

April 7 – Global LAVA proposes small businesses should think outside the States – “Exporting and Importing: Getting The US Government’s Help And Dealing With Foreign Regulations”  will feature a conversation with Bronwen Madden – Deputy Director of the Center for International Trade Development (CITD) and Susan Ross – Attorney/International Trade Counsel of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp,  and Vice-Chair of Southern California Regional District Export Council.  Century City, 7:30 – 9:30 AM.

April 10 – LAVA Special Event:   Venture Funding in Digital Media.  Moderator Sam Jones, Co-Founder and CEO of Formation Media will engage a stellar panel of leading media executives including: Paul Bricault, Co-founder, Amplify.la; Leigh Collier, VP of programming/development, CBS; and, Mike Wann, Head of Business Development, Demand Media.  Incumbents are finding new ways to adapt, startups are embracing disruption, and a new class of incubators/accelerators are leading a large infusion of capital.  Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Santa Monica, 6:30 – 9:00 PM.

April 20 – Green LAVA will present a bevy of speakers including:  Lisa Ann Pinkerton, Founder & President of Technica Communications discussing the powerful potential of Clean Tech industries; Mark Goodstein, newly appointed Executive Director of Cleantech LA; Fred Walti, Executive Director to update the group on progress, programs and clients of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator; commentary of Neal Roche. CEO and Co-Founder of Gridtest Systems, who has recently secured Angel investments; and, Stan Tomsic, Pasadena Angel and Cleantech Open Co-Chair LA Metro to present an update on the Cleantech Open – the world’s largest Accelerator and Clean Technology Business Competition that awards over $1M annually.  Hosted by Marcum, LLP, Century City, 7:00 – 9:00 AM

April 24 – LAVA Mobile will host a panel session ROI in Mobile: How to make money as an entrepreneur, investor, and advertiser.  While there are any number of ways to make money in the mobile space, advertising and brand sponsorship is, by far, the most common.  This LAVA Mobile event brings together experts who have been in the trenches and understand the ins-and-outs when it comes to monetizing a mobile initiative, app, or business.  Sponsored by Ernst & Young.  Santa Monica, 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

April 25 – Women in LAVA will review Term Sheets – what they are and how entrepreneurs negotiate the best possible deals.  The program will be moderated by Laurelle Johnson, President of Strategies for Growth, and feature Emily Yukich, Co-Chair of WinLAVA and Partner in Fox Rothschild, LLP; Sam Jones, CEO of Co-Founder of Formation Media; and Rosemary Nguyen, Principal and Managing Director of iCapital Finance.  Santa Monica Place Community Center, 11:30-1:30 PM.

April 27 – LAVA Healthcare will feature Dr. Neal Kaufman, CEO of DPS Health, a very interesting venture whose goal is to “improve obesity-related outcomes with engaging, clinically proven web and mobile interventions that coach overweight patients to achieve healthy behavior change and effective self-management.”  Pepperdine University Howard Hughes Center Campus – 7:00 – 9:00 AM
