LSMFT – Mogreet raises another $4.1M

Whats news:  Local multimedia marketing company Mogreet scores a B-Round to bring its funding up to $14M with lead investor Black Diamond joined by prior investors DFJ and Ascend Ventures.  The new funding will be used to develop and launch moShare, a mobile sharing service to join the existing messaging service SoLoMo (Social, Local, Mobile).  Details from the press release here.

The Los Angeles based mobile video marketing company provides tools to create APIs that allows clients to quickly prepare and propagate SMS and multimedia messaging to their customers.   Mogreet counts both F1000 and SMBs among their client base and grew 1000% last year.  Mogreet’s tools make it easy for the client’s customer base to resend client video communication to others via social networks.

What’s new:  Los Angeles based at-home care service for seniors, LivHOME, announced the release of tablet app LivIndependa.  The app gives seniors a custom suite of functions – Safety, Control, Engagement – through cloud enabled services.  The app provides a single means for seniors to easily summons assistance, contact care givers, share photos, receive medication reminders, e-mail and internet. 

The application was provided by Independa, a developer of independent living solutions for seniors.

LSMFT – CitySourced goes to school

Whats news: Los Angeles based civic engagement application designer CitySourced has landed a contract with LAUSD to enable students, parents, faculty to report maintenance problems on campus. One of the biggest school districts with 700 square miles of property and 14,000 buildings, the district gets 300,000 maintenance related calls a year.

The application is tied into the school district’s Maximo asset management software. App users take a photo, the app tags the image with GPS and forwards to the Maximo system where maintenance staff can review the report. More here.

LSMFT: Punchcard Rewards Now Available from Local Merchants

What’s news: Pasadena based and Idealab backed Punchcard announced their retail “Gratitude Marketing” program for local merchants and their frequent customers.  Rewards are available from almost 150,000 local restaurants, retailers, theaters and spas in the southern California area.  Using a smartphone camera, the customer sends a photo of their receipt and earns “punches”.  The punches are then redeemed for cash or other rewards.

Punchcard was started in 2011 by seasoned entrepreneur, Andy Steuer, and is available for both iPhone and Android devices.

LSMFT – iVision adds MMS to its platform

What’s New: Privately owned, Chatsworth based iVision Mobile, a software and solution provider for mobile marketers has expanded its white label product offerings to include a Inbound Multimedia Messaging Service. iVision’s client list includes notables Coke, Comcast, Miami Heat and DirecTV. Their network delivers over 3.0M messages to opt-in subscribers each month.

The iVision platform enables a variety of outbound marketing efforts like text alerts, coupons, alarms, surveys, contests and payments. The new service allows subscribers to capture/create content to send a MMS messages to a short code that can be forwarded via the iVision gateway to the appropriate receiver (server, address or media library).

LSMFT: LiveViewGPS launches tracking device

What:  Wireless location based service product and service provider LiveViewGPS announced the release of its latest tracking device – Live Trac EZ GPS Vehicle Tracker.  The receiver plugs into the On-Board Diagnostic Port (OBD) – a standard data technician interface on vehicles sold after 1996.  Plug in the tracker and you can remotely monitor the car’s location at a 10 second update rate.  The device can be used as part of a fleet tracking service, monitoring vehicle use by teenage drivers or asset management.

Background:  Tracking is accomplished using satellite positioning systems, a digital cellular network and the internet.   Location data is transmitted via a digital cellular network through to LiveViewGPS’ servers where the information can be remotely viewed on any standard browser.

Some of LiveViewGPS personal tracking devices (i.e., PT-8100 and PT-8200) use Qualcomm’s gpsOne GNSS technology (GPS and Glonass), which enhances the ability of the receiver to resolve positions where signals might be weak (e.g. inside a building) or subject to shading/weather, ionospheric distortion or reflection off structures (multipath interference).
