LSMFT: TruantToday cutting truancy

Whats news:  Local start-up TruantToday was recently featured at NBC’s Education Nation Summit.  The company has designed an alert system for schools that lets parents know by text or e-mail when their children are not in their classroom.   The service addresses several problems simultaneously – alerting parents when kids are not in class and reducing the loss of state and federal funding for the school which is based on attendance.  This helps the community by reducing truancy, improving the graduation rate and even improving student’s performance.

TruantToday has been a participant in the Clinton Global Initiatives, California State Science Fair and will be enrolling in a TechStars camp in Colorado.

About:  TruantToday was founded in late 2010 by Zak Kukoff when Zak was a high school sophomore. TruantToday was based on Zak’s experiences in watching his teachers struggle to use clunky, confusing school software.  TruantToday believes that software made for educators should be simple and easy-to-use. Educators shouldn’t have to spend time trying to use complicated, poorly made software – they should be able to focus their time on teaching their students.
