LSMFT: Scalable Networks scores SBIR to develop MOUS M2E2 toolkit

Whats news:   The Navy’s Sparwar System Center Pacific has awarded a $850K SBIR Phase II contract to Scalable Networks to develop a modeling and evaluation toolkit for simulating military mobile communications capability.  The toolkit will allow for the end-to-end evaluation and performance simulation for the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) that is still under development.  Simulation will also enable planners and field operations to develop training applications to enhance readiness, availability and reliability.

MUOS is a narrowband Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) system that supports a worldwide, multi-service population of mobile and fixed-site terminal users in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. In this contract, SCALABLE will develop high fidelity simulation models for MUOS along with a software-in-the-loop capability that enables integration with operational applications so that real applications, services and MUOS network management software can run seamlessly on top of the emulated MUOS network in M2E2 [Modeling and Evaluation Environment].

About:  Scalable Networks develops network simulation software that increases communications readiness in battlefield operations, network integration and cyber warfare. SCALABLE solutions integrate software virtual networks with physical hardware and applications, allowing users to rapidly test a wide range of highly realistic “what if” scenarios for better operational planning, more effective training and enhanced communications effectiveness.

SCALABLE also provides custom solutions and engineering support services for specific requirements to major aerospace and defense contractors, the US Department of Defense, mobile network operators, research agencies and universities.

Background:  Scalable Networks was founded in 1999 by Dr. Rajive Bagrodia, Professor of Computer Science at UCLA.  HQ is in Los Angeles but the company has multiple engineering facilities around the world.  The software developed by the company develops custom high performance simulation software that tests and stresses battlefield communications readiness, network integration and cyber warfare.  Scalable is able to integrate large-scale software virtual networks with physical hardware and applications, allowing planners and operational personnel to rapidly verify use cases for better planning, training and reliability/survivability of communication systems.
