Mobile LAVA Event – September 12, 6:30 PM, Cross Campus

 Mobile and Retail

Mobile has disrupted the retail shopping experience and with that, created an abundance of new opportunities for entrepreneurs. In truth, we are all connected mobile consumers with the power to find, research, and purchase products and services from virtually anywhere at any moment. Our location-aware devices provide context and personalized relevance for us and for merchants. Massive computing power in our hands, built-in cameras, click-to-dial, GPS, text messaging, and internet connectivity all combine to revolutionize the kinds of front-end applications, back office operations, promotions, customer service, and checkout tools that are–or will become–available.

Mobile LAVA’s next event will attempt to answer questions like:

  • How do new mobile technologies create new demand and expectations among retail consumers?
  • What are some emerging business models and revenue opportunities for mobile entrepreneurs in retail?
  • What kinds of problems do large retailers have as the result of mobile, and what does this mean for enterprising start-ups?

Entrepreneurs are naturally infused with passion, ideas, and a desire to attract people to their passion and ideas. Often, however, the practical realities of starting a business can get lost in the midst of an entrepreneur’s enthusiasm, and easily avoidable mistakes can result in huge headaches down the road, or worse — business.

The window is closing on an opportunity to participate in a candid conversation with some of the people making Silicon Beach the destination to start, grow and fund start-ups.  This event is meant to inform founders, executives, teams, the service providers,  investors and broader community about what it is like to be a part of this dynamic community.

Moderator: Matthias Galica – Emcee at BEASTMODE.FM, curator at StartupDigest LA,

Panel:

Francisco Dao – Columnist at PandoDaily, founder of 50Kings

Shara Senderoff – Co-founder of InternSushi, 2012 Forbes “30 Under 30”

Matthew Goldman – Founder of Wallaby Financial

Kenneth Hepburn – Founder of LivnGiv, sculptor-cum-CEO, Founder Institute survivor

Amanda MacNaughton – Co-founder of PromoJam

Start-ups have myriad challenges for the early stage team but none feel the stress as intensely as the founders and especially the CEO. Add that to near celebrity status that founders can attain through proximity to a hot area or cause or technology or market. Bring the need to be always on, in the moment, part of the show which layers weight and complexity. Combine the challenges, the notoriety, the act and expectations and you brew a toxic cocktail that is consumed routinely by entrepreneurs working in an area like Silicon Beach, in an exploding space like mobile while maintaining a positive aura.

Register now at Mobile LAVA. Mobile LAVA is the Strategic Interest Group of the Los Angeles Venture Association focused on the emergence and significance of ubiquitous computing. The SIG and Mobile LAVA events are generously sponsored by Gumiyo and Ernst & Young.
